Top washing machine features
Customized wash cycles
There are several wash cycles and options to customize for laundry needs.
With a Whirlpool® 2 in 1 Removable Agitator, users can customize their laundry load to fit their family’s unique needs. Easily remove the agitator when washing a bulky load, then add it back when finished.
Intuitive touch controls allow what-to-wash and how-to-wash cycle selection.
Smart connectivity
Smart washers can connect to an in-home wifi network, enabling remote control via an app and providing maintenance and usage tips.
Select smart washers even allow users to schedule cycles to start, control the washer with voice commands and track cycles as they run.
Pet hair removal
Washers and dryers now have specialized cycles to help pet owners remove pet hair from their laundry.
The Pet Pro option in the Maytag® Smart Pet Pro Front Load Washer unleashes additional water and a deep rinse with help from the Pet Pro Filter, lifting and removing pet hair from clothes for a clean you can see.*
*Results vary by load size and pet hair type.
Sensor wash
Certain washing machines have sensors that optimize cycle combinations, temperatures and times, removing some of the guesswork when it comes to choosing laundry settings.
Sanitize cycle
Some washers include a cycle that sanitizes clothing. This is helpful for washing items like bedding, exercise clothes or bath towels, which might carry extra bacteria.
Select Whirlpool® washers use extra-hot water to eliminate 99.9% of household bacteria.*
* Bacteria tested were S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae.
Auto-dispense detergent
Skip steps and save time by adding a bulk load of detergent to the washer and letting the machine do the rest.
Whirlpool® Load and Go™ Dispensers automatically disperse the right amount of detergent, so users don’t need to add it for each new load. These dispensers are designed to store enough detergent for 20-40 loads of laundry,* depending on the model.
Based on an 8-lb load. Actual dispenser capacity varies by model.
Fan feature
Some front-load washers have a setting that continues to tumble clothes and circulate air periodically after the wash cycle finishes. It gives users more time and flexibility around removing their clothing and may dry light items without running them through the dryer.
The FanFresh® cycle is available on select Whirlpool® washers to help keep laundry fresh. Once the wash cycle ends, a built-in fan activates to tumble clothes for up to 12 hours to finish laundry when users choose.
Self-cleaning cycle
A self-clean cycle on the washer can help keep the tub clean and prevent odor-causing bacteria from growing. Certain models will even remind users when to run this cycle.
Add affresh® cleaner tablets to your washer during the self-cleaning cycle for a more thorough clean and to help prevent buildup and residue.*
affresh® products and the recommending brands' products are all owned and distributed by Whirlpool Corporation.
Pretreat Station
With a Pretreat Station, users can soak, wash and pretreat stains as they load clothes into the washer. Some washers with a Pretreat Station include a built-in faucet and pretreat brush for convenient laundry care all in one spot.
Select Whirlpool® washers include Pretreat Stations to help remove stains without needing to move to a separate sink. Plus, the Automatic Presoak option allows users to select the length of time to soak clothing before automatically starting a wash cycle.
Best dryer features
Smart connectivity
Smart dryers, like smart washers, enable users to control their appliances through an app, managing laundry day from their phone, including custom fabric cycles, voice command features and more.
Moisture sensors
Sensors are built into select dryers to measure moisture and temperature levels and automatically stop the cycle once the load is dry.
Select Whirlpool® dryers are equipped with AccuDry™ sensors to avoid overdrying clothes and help take the guesswork out of finding the right drying time.
Steam dry option
Many dryers are now equipped with a steam dry option to smooth out wrinkles, help reduce static and keep clothes smelling fresh.
This option works best with fabrics prone to wrinkling, or when users aren’t available to unload clothing right away.
Extensive settings
Dryers come with a variety of different settings to suit any need. For example, some dryers have energy-efficient cycles that use lower heat and longer drying times to save power or Quick Dry cycles when in a rush.
There is also a wide assortment of settings for delicates, bulkier loads or for items that need to be air-dried.
Wrinkle prevention
Wrinkles can form if clothes sit in the dryer for a long period of time after finishing a cycle. The Wrinkle Shield™ option from Whirlpool brand continues to tumble, rearrange and fluff the clothes for up to 150 minutes after the end of the cycle to stop wrinkles from forming.
There is also an additional Wrinkle Prevent with Steam setting on select models which quickly steams the laundry and helps to smooth out any wrinkles.
